I have spent my career in government finance and in public service focusing on integrity, accountability, efficiency, transparency and outcomes that benefit you: the taxpayer. With a degree in Accounting and Business Administration, I worked for 8 years in the Chesapeake Treasurer's office: the Commonwealth's second largest locality. During that time, I led teams and managed day-to-day processes, revenue operations and collections, multiple technical systems, and solved complex problems under pressure while facing deadlines. I have earned a reputation for being thorough and practical when taxpayer money and service is on the line.
The values I stand for were shaped by where I come from. I was raised on a small farm in a tiny community along the Great Lakes by my great-grandparents. They were first-generation Americans who had lived through many historical periods of the 1900s: the Great Depression, World War II, civil rights and labor laws. They taught me the value of hard work and standing up for what's right. And that has stayed with me as I built my life, moving across the East Coast, and eventually here from New York following a military relocation in 2008. I am proud to have called Chesapeake home now for almost 20 years, raising my three sons with my husband in the heart of Great Bridge.
Because of my background and the pride I have in our city, I am running to be your City Treasurer. I believe we are at a crossroads in democracy. At every level from our local government to federal, we are facing a breakdown in trust, transparency and in basic fairness in how our government institutions serve the people. And it is time for that to change.
The Treasurer's office may not make headlines, but it matters. This office impacts every resident, small business and city service. And you deserve a Treasurer who works for you, the people - not for politics.
Sincerely,
Chesapeake is at a crossroads, and your support can make the difference. We need to raise funds to fight and campaign, and every dollar counts. If you believe in a better future for our city, please donate today.
